KiBar, cybernetic bar
KiBar - ARCHIVE 2004 - 2007
KiBar - cybernetic bar represents a parallel between the reading clubs tradition in Europe at the end of the 19th century and the cybernetic reading club at the end of the 20th century, and in the beginning of the 21st century, in a global village. KiBar is an information and electronic point, where an informant can advise and inform you (youth counseling, SRCe). It is open every workday between 9am until 10pm and every Saturday between 4pm and 10pm. Kibar offers ten computer terminals with free internet access; standing terminals are meant for quick browsing and the sitting terminals for more demanding tasks.
From the beginning, Kibla has been based upon an open code system, which is why instead of Microsoft's Word (which you can use if needed in KIT) you will find OpenOffice here. You can borrow headphones and print, burn or scan the chosen material. If you have your own lap-top, you can borrow UTP cabel that you maybe forgot at home and connect to the internet yourself. Maximum 150 cable connections are available which is great in the time of various festivals such as Kiblix. To those of you who don't like cables and have your own wi-fi card, we offer wireless internet access through WiFi HotSpot.
Is your cell phone low on battery? In MobiBar you can borrow mobile phone filler for Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Sharp, Motorola and Siemens.
KiBar is a space for contemporary electronic media - here audio-video events, various thematic and literary evenings, festivals, round tables and presentations are taking place. Classical media are not excluded - you can read a newspaper and visit photographic or painting exhibitions and listen to a funky concert. In the evening hours KiBar is an excellent starting point for night –time escapades around town.
Our visitors are high-school students, university students, intellectuals, artists, computer freaks, people working in various cultural spheres, bussines women and men, pensioners. KiBar is definetely open to all those who are interested, Kibla's informant is at disposal to all those who have just began to enter the world of electronic communications. Unemployed persons and persons difficult to employ can use the internet when looking for a job.
We must not forget that the structure of visitors until today has been various - from 0 to 100 years old, various nationalities and races, social stratums, sexual orientations and educational levels. We have not excluded the little people, the phisically and mentally handicapped people, the deaf, hard of hearing and speech impaired people, the partially sighted and blind people (two Kibar price lists are available in braille) and others.
There is also always a place for those who just look for a cosy nook where they can drink the best coffee in town, delicious Slovenian vines, tea with home-made honey and pear schnapps.
In KiBar local and global culture are always interwining.
Kibla is a partner of Springfestival (festival of electronic music) in Graz, Austria.
