Staš Kleindienst: Lost Space

8. 3. 2017–25. 3. 2017

You are kindly invited to attend the opening of the exhibition Lost Space by Staš Kleindinst. The opening will take place on the international women's day, which celebrates their economic, political and social achievements and equal rights. Welcome on Wednesday, 8 March 2017 at 8 p. m. to KiBela, space for art, at the MMC KIBLA (Ulica kneza Koclja 9, Maribor).

The exhibition title Lost Space recapitulates the idea of a depoliticized space, which is present in the artist's works. This is a painted space, which has lost the power of antagonism and only remains in service of the ideology of capitalism. A space, where mutual relationships have become ritualized and controlled, yet devoid of any kind of potentiality and political manifestation.

Žarko Bašeski (Macedonia): Activating Receptors

First hyperrealistic sculpture exhibition in Slovenia

KIBLA PORTAL, Valvasorjeva 40, Maribor

17 March–31 May 2017

Opening: Friday, 17 March 2017, 7 p. m.

A consistent creative path has brought Žarko Bašeski to a top position in the world of art. When after years of abstract sculpting and installations his sculptures became more and more figural in form, at a certain point he found himself closer to purely realist depictions, which, however, were charged with an additional quality. His figures and their faces oozed character; they extended the domain of reality, and the poses and grimaces crossed over the realistic sphere. Quite naturally, it seems, this was followed by a transformation in terms of materials, as he moved from wood, metal, and stone to polyester, and decided to continue with hyperrealistic sculpting. Since then, his path has been constantly rising, and one of the stops on this way was his representation of Macedonia at the Venice Biennial in 2011. After that, it was hard for him to keep up with all the exhibition invitations he had received from galleries around the world.

Jasna Klara Kozar: AVATAR

AXx. oN. M. and Galerija Niko Ignjatič, Celje

3. 3. 2017–31. 3. 2017

In Sanskrit, avatar means a reincarnating soul, something which is becoming a challenge once again in the sphere of contemporary painting – because any kind of restriction in the tactile and creative freedom is unbearable to a painter. Jasna Kozar’s Avatar is, above all, an attempt at a meditative intellectual shift, but also playing with the ideal of re-birth. The question remains, does the re-birth occur as “returning of the same”, or does it merely trip over something we call karma? What is Kozar’s avatar like in the traditional painting medium? As the artist herself states, it is about “the recycling of an Indian experience, which lasted for a temporal period of eight years”.

MED 2017 – Maribor Electronic Destination

MMC KIBLA, 24 March 2017 at 22.00

MED # 3 Urban Divas

MED – Maribor Electronic Destination – the musical, electronic, electro-acoustical, intermedia and audio-visual festival, conceived to deepen the interaction between various media of electronic production, was first established in 2008. Ever since, it has been focused on providing a balance between two seemingly opposite aspects of creating electronic music. Existing somewhere between experimental/ambient and dance musical experiences, it has attracted some of the most visible performers from around the world, like Howie B. (2008), Toni Jarvis (2009), Schlammpeitziger (2010), Greie Gut Fraktion (2011), Golden Globe winner Jóhann Jóhannsson (2012), Andy Stott (2013), Tara Transitory – One Man Nation (2014), William Bennett – Cut Hands (2015), Lucrecia Dalt (2016), and many others. Find out more about the history of the festival at:

Strolling through electronic genres while incorporating other media, projections, installations, and intermedia performances, MED attracts audiences and provides a direct taste of the most current musical productions, which remains its basic motto also for the future. This year's edition of the festival is modified and punctuated with events appearing throughout the year, like an omnibus with monthly stops.

The first episode of the new year features EMVY with an experimental electronic set on Friday, 27 January 2017, from 10 p. m. and up to the wee hours. DJ Trick-C and Dante Benami will be bringing us together on 24 February 2017, while Urban Divas will unfold their talent on 24 March 2017. All events take place at the MMC KIBLA, starting at 10 p. m. This is not where the story ends, of course, but rather where the journey begins!

Welcome, join us at our regular events – you will never leave disappointed...but definitely oozing like honey, in a dionisical state of mind, as you try to fit your key in the lock after this otherworldly experience, all melty and drooly...MED 2017!

Damjan Kozole – documentary film screening and discussion with the director

Thursday, 30 March 2017 at 7 p. m.

MMC KIBLA, Ulica kneza Koclja 9, Maribor

A discussion with Slovenian director and screenwriter Damjan Kozole will be hosted as part of the Risk Change project, which explores in innovative ways the processes of migration in the cultural and artistic context; on Thursday, 30 March 2017 at 7 p. m. at the MMC KIBLA.

The discussion with the director will be accompanied by a screening of documentaries Meje (Borders; Vesna Award for Best Documentary (Slovenian Film Festival 2016), winner of Dokudoc Festival (Maribor), Human Rights Award – Special Mention (22nd Sarajevo Film Festival)), which was shot in October 2015 in Brežice, at the Schengen border between Slovenia and Croatia. We will also be showing and discussing Fototot and Silent Party, two films which have been used by legendary performers Ulay and Marina Abramović, both migrants, to accompany their creative efforts. Migrations and the issues associated with them are a topic that has ruffled quite a few feathers in the Slovenian public space. Can we even talk about humanism and migrations in the same breath?
