Apocalyptology and Blamescaping
18 October–9 November 2019
MMC KIBLA / KiBela, Ulica kneza Koclja 9, Maribor, Slovenia
You are hereby kindly invited to attend the opening ceremony of an exhibition by Miķelis Fišers, on Friday, 18 October 2019, at 7 p. m., in KiBela, space for art, at the MMC KIBLA in Maribor.
ABOUT EXHIBITION (PDF)
Miķelis Fišers, born 1970 in Riga, is exceptionally skilled in his original, multidimensional and technically accomplished approach. He lives and works in Latvia. Since the beginning of the 1990s he has been exhibiting widely, both in solo and group exhibitions, and has also worked as a set designer since 2004. He participated twice in the Venice Biennial: in 2015 as part of a group exhibition of Latvian contemporary art, entitled Ornamentalism, and in 2017 as a representative of Latvia with a solo exhibition What Can Go Wrong.
In his works, he employs a broad range of media, uses various materials, which he arranges into complex installations (which is in fact what his exhibitions are); conceives and constructs theater set designs, creates video works, sculptures and objects; and, above all, he draws, paints and creates woodcuts. His series of woodcuts are particularly appealing, his monumental paintings will absorb you, the set up is inspired by the artist's experience in theater stage design, and, for him, every art show is a stage.
Welcome to the art scene! We have an amazing opportunity to meet the artist in person, and consider his art in a real-life setting. Free admission.
The exhibition will be showing until 9 November 2019.
