Mitja Potočnik / Brdo Castle through Centuries - book presentation

Thursday 3 December 2009 at 7 pm, MMC Kibla - the presentation of the book Grad Brdo skozi stoletja / Brdo Castle through Centuries by Mitja Potočnik, accompanied by a screening of images of the castle and its surroundings, the castle ruins and the objects preserved. The atmosphere was enhanced by the violinist Petra Onderufova performing reneissance and medieval music.

The book by Mitja Potočnik focuses on the history of owners of the castle in Brdo pri Lukovici. At first a renaissance castle, later slightly renovated in baroque style, it served as the seat of feudal nobility and later the county office and county court located at the major road connection between Carniola and Styria. The first part of the book us based on the author's thesis, and the second one is written in the manner of a family chronicle. The two parts are connected by the album of art photographs by Andrej Blatnik, portraying the castle ruins and the surroundings. It differs from other family chronicles in that it describes the owners of a major Slovenian renaissance castle - the castle in Brdo pri Lukovici, where one of the most influential Carniola noble families lived in the 18th century - the Lambers of Kamnik, including Franc Adam Lamberg, the main county officer. In the 19th century, the castle served as the residence of Janko Kersnik, a notary, writer and even mayor for a period of time. The book includes a short description of the county history, documents featuring first mentions of the place and the castle, coats of arms and genealogies of families residing in the castle, descriptions of noble inventories, early cadastres, operations of the judicial and political county and alike.

The programme has been supported by the  Public Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Book.
