Tanja Vujinović: AVANTGARDENERS
Tanja Vujinović: AVANTGARDENERS 9 October–7 November 2026 MMC KIBLA/KiBela
You are cordially invited to the opening of multimedia artist Tanja Vujinović's exhibition AVANTGARDENERS, which will take place on Friday, 9 October 2026, at 7 p.m. at KiBela, space for art.
AVANTGARDENERS is a multimedia installation by Tanja Vujinović that brings together moving images, 3D works, digital prints, virtual environments, and electronic sound. The exhibition unfolds as an imaginary environment populated by multiple forms of existence. Avatars, synthetic organisms, plants, flowers, insects, animals, and unfamiliar life forms occupy the same space. Bodies change, exchange materials with their surroundings, and take on forms that belong simultaneously to biology, technology, and imagination.
The inhabitants of this world are AvantGardeners. They tend, cultivate, observe, and participate in the environments around them. Gardening becomes both an activity and a way of imagining coexistence: a practice of attention, care, and continual transformation. This world is synthetic. Its digital surfaces, avatars, and constructed organisms emerge directly from contemporary technological culture while inventing other forms of nature. Gaming culture enters this world as a language for navigating multiplicity. Frames reminiscent of collectible cards, character interfaces, and other fragments of virtual-world culture become part of the physical exhibition.
AVANTGARDENERS extends Tanja Vujinović’s longstanding interest in virtual identity, synthetic bodies, and imaginary ecologies, while opening these concerns to a more expansive question: what kinds of worlds become possible when existence is no longer organized around a single human form? The project considers multiplicity as a condition through which new relationships can emerge. The garden also carries the memory of earlier technological utopias. Throughout modernity, visions of the future have repeatedly imagined technology as a means of improving living conditions: providing clean air and water, abundant energy, healthier environments, and more time for life beyond necessity.
Vujinović has returned to related ideas throughout her practice, working with fountains, protomachines, virtual environments, and artificial ecologies in which technology is embedded directly into the conditions of life. AVANTGARDENERS takes up that unfinished dream from a different vantage point. Its future is not a perfected technological civilization. It is a place where uncertainty remains, where forms are still changing, where intelligence can take unfamiliar shapes, and where technology is entangled with care, play, curiosity, and the pleasure of being alive. There is room here for leisure, for looking, for tending, for touching, for growing something whose final form is not yet known. The garden remains open.
