Jože Šubic: Take a Picture
Jože Šubic: Take a Picture 20 March–18 April 2026 MMC KIBLA/KiBela
You are cordially invited to the opening of Jože Šubic’s solo exhibition Take a Picture, which will take place on Friday, 20 March 2026, at 7 p.m. at KiBela, space for art.
The series Take a Picture begins with the artist’s intention to explore corporeality and intimacy as a visual language – one in which the body, figuration, and the sensuous erotic charge of images are not meant to provoke, but to exist naturally within symbolic, mythological, and everyday imaginaries
At first glance, the series Take a Picture situates itself within a long tradition of the artistic gaze cast upon the female body. Portraits and nudes of women – nearly bare yet persistently and partially concealed by shirts, skirts, or fragments of clothing and objects – create a tension between disclosure and restraint. The title Take a Picture also suggests an act of capture, possession, and archiving, in which the gaze becomes a command that arrests the body, suspends it in time, and inscribes it as a visual document. Yet within this seemingly controlling gesture, a fissure emerges and extends further.
Šubic’s series evokes selected moments from the art-historical past, including feminist positions and pivotal practices, opening a space for reflection on how the body, eroticism, and subjectivity have been reshaped over time.
