!!The performance is always played night-time!!

The sudden realization that we are living in a world shattered by different kind of Crisis inspired us to look deeper into the society and examine those complex issues that marked the discourse of our present years. What we witnessed was not only the Crisis of poverty and immigration – as direct results of the unstable economic state across Europe and the world in general – it was also the inner Crisis of communication and morality values. The exceeding number of acts of aggression and violence, whether verbal or physical, between parents, parents and children, children and children, young couples, lead us to the thought that this is unrealized problem for our society.

Thus the idea of “Summer-night Awakening” was born. Theatre Vazrajdane’s contribution to the multinational Project Caravan was the examination of the social issue of domestic violence and the creation of this special performance, dedicated to those who have been direct and indirect victims of its consequences. “Summer-night Awakening” aims to be a messenger of hope and strength. It is a positive story of rising from the ashes of the Crisis and spreading new wings towards the better future, following the true spirit of the Caravan Project.

Social Intervention and Dialogue with the Community

Often the actors will go out of their roles and will turn to the audience and start asking them questions about what they are seeing, what they are thinking on the topic, what would they change if they had the opportunity and then inviting them to the stage to perform the change themselves. The key element to this is our Community Canvas – a specially made white paper roll on which people are writing their thoughts and positive ideas and messages for courage and faith in order to inspire change in the problem of domestic violence. During the performance the actors will use it too by writing the thoughts of audience while communicating with them.

In the workshops afterwards children and adults could draw pictures and sketches on Community Canvas, or recreate with the actors scenes inspired by the words already written on the Community Canvas by the people before them. Thus the messages will not be covered will dust, sort f speak, but will intercommunicate with people in other countries and become active participants in our quest.

The Canvas has already travelled across Bulgaria and we are taking it with us in every country, every city that we go to as part of our Caravan Tour. What we hope to do is on our last performance in Turin to spread it wide so all words and messages of people from across Europe to be shown. It is a powerful element not only for our performance but for our idea too – it will remain as a official document of feelings and thoughts of people from different social and national background, united together behind an idea for Rrenaissance, for a way out of the Crises.
