SEDUCTION - Seduced by Uncertain Knowledge

"θηρῶν ἁπάντων ἀγριωτέρα γυνή /
inter feras fera nulla ferior muliere"
(Menandros Monosticha, 248)

Exhibition opening: Thursday, 17th of September 2009, 20.00
New Moment Ideas Gallery, Hilandarska 14, 11000 Belgrade, Serbia
Production: Association for Culture and Education KIBLA, Space for Art KiBela, Maribor, Slovenia
Executive producer: Dejan Pestotnik
Curator: Maja Vuksanović
Sound editing: Dino Schreilechner

Seduction emerges from the combination of “uncovered” and “covered” visual material: “available light” photography and selected poetry of the Ancient Greek philosopher Xenophanes of Colophon written in hexameter.

Instead of a direct translation of timeless verses, which would demolish the poetry, the Ancient Greek was interpreted as spoken-word sound collage considering ancient particularities by the well-known Greek Opera Singer Zinovia-Maria Zafeiriadou, who lives and works in Slovenia and Greece.

The Exhibition forms a symbiosis between ancient fragments and contemporary photography. Professional models entice us (among them Sanela Vukalić, Slovenian Playboy Playmate of The Year 2009) in their personal, intimate moments, while anonymous girls charm us with their mystified beauty and hidden intrigues.

Seduction both locates and dislocates. We are caressed as much as we are confronted. The historical blends into the actual, facts  encode into fiction, and the glamorous romances with anti-glamour.
