Kristian Kožul / Subsidized realities

Friday 11 September 2009 at 8 pm, Kibela - the opening of the exhibition  Subsidized realities by Croatian artist Kristian Kožul.

Kristian Kožul (1975) first studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Zagreb and continued his studies at Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf with prof. Jannis Kounelis. He is considered one of the most interesting and sharp representatives of Croatian contemporary art.
The artist's sculptures, objects and installations that question the traditional sculpture medium are marked by detailed execution and conscious playing with the aesthetics of kitsch.  His works offer a new handling of interpreting the tradition, cultural and material heritage, identity, spectacle and power in the contemporary world. Subtle approach, combining what cannot be combined and the daring, bravely nearing the limit of distaste, are the common denominators of works by Kristian Kožul.
For some time now, the artist has been living in New York where he is an active member of the New York art scene, yet he continues to present his work in various European galleries. The exhibition in Kibela will be his first presentation in Maribor.
