Vlatko Čerić - lecture about algorithmic art

Friday, 25th of May 2007, at 8pm - MMC KIBLA, KiBela space for art

Vlatko Čerić was born in 1945 in Zagreb, Croatia. He graduated from physics and started working at the Institute for physics in Zagreb. Soon he became interested in computers, especially in computer simulation. He is professor of informatics at the Faculty for Economy in Zagreb.

"While writing my diploma I listened to some art history lectures. I was fascinated by abstract art, especially Brancusi. I am also inspired by: Klee, Mondrian, Vasarely, de Stael in Max Bill.

Computer created graphics attracted my attention very soon: I started working with them in the early 70’s. In October or November 2005 I had my first exhibition. Since the beginning of 2006 I am sending my works to international exhibitions.

I practice algorithmic art.  My work originates in computer generated abstract art – algorithmic art where images are created with the help of algorithms. Algorithms contain rules written in mathematic and computer form that describe how an image will look like and how it will be created.”
