Hidden notes - ARCHIVE 1999 - 2007

Since the year 1998 Multimedia Centre Kibla is preparing a concert cycle Hidden Notes with approximately ten concerts per year.

Hidden Notes indicate »mediation of today's music« - that is relevant contemporary musical art and culture. Hidden Notes act beyond the problem of distinction between popular or serious music, composed  or improvised music, classically modern or avant-garde, high-, sub- and popular culture, beyond the aesthetical preferences and stylistic characteristics.

Hidden Notes indicate the quality in variety, the choice in the wide palette of possibilities and signify a support to new and innovative projects and (Slovenian or foreign) premieres. Hidden Notes represent contemporary music from all over the world with main focus on innovative, modern and provocative approaches of  musicians who exceed genre, age, geographical, cultural and race limitatons and stereotypes.

The centre of the Hidden Notes music programme is »jazz«, but we try to choose projects that widen the general idea of jazz.

One of the priorites of the Hidden Notes and Izzven Fetival cycles is a contribution to the cultural offer in Maribor - we organize concerts in various places and enrich them with »different« contents as usual. Our concerts have taken place in Narodni dom, KiBela gallery, Narodni dom Club, Multimedia Centre Kibla, Art Gallery Maribor, Satchmo Jazz Club, Štuk Student Multipurpose Centre and outdoor. Because we organize the concerts in various places the structure of the public is also heterogeneous-from high school students to older people (even above 60 years of age). In the last two years we have noticed an increasing percent of the student  and young intellectuals population. Our public comes from different countries and cities: Slovenia, Graz, Vienna, Zagreb and Budapest.

Let us expose some of the remarkable artists and collaborations from the past seasons:
- Vinko Globokar (Slovenija) – trombonist and composer, winner of the last year Prešeren lifework award. In Maribor he introduced himself  FOR THE FIRST TIME as an author and instrumentalist. He performed together with two other trombonists Sebastiano Tramontana (from Italy) and Johannes Bauer (Germany) on their world premiere.
- The Necks (Australia) – Australian group, that performed with the help of Australian Embassy in Vienna and with the collaboration of Cankarjev dom Ljubljana (within the spheres of Australian Spring Festival)
- Spaceways Inc. (USA) – in collaboration with Druga Godba Ljubljana Festival (as an accompanying act in Maribor)
 - Samo Šalamon Quartet (Slovenia, Italy) – in collaboration with the s 44th Jazz Festival Ljubljana (as an accompanying act in Maribor)
- Maya Homburger & Barry Guy (Great Britain) – in collaboration with the 44th Jazz Festival Ljubljana (as an accompanying act in Maribor)
- Aki Takase Quartet (Japan, Germany, USA) – in collaboration with the 8th Jazz Festival Cerkno
 - collaboration with »Jeunesse Musicales Vienna« and »Graz 2003 – European Cultural Capital, one of the biggest musical organizers in Austria that enabled us an exclusive performance by Akosh S. Unit group (France, Hungary, Algeria).
