Anja Jelovšek: Selected Drawings

Anja Jelovšek: Selected Drawings

7 February–24 March 2018
Exhibition opening: Wednesday, 7 February 2018, at 18.00
Breakfast with the Artist: Thursday, 8 February 2018, at 10.00
artKIT, Glavni trg 14

Selected Drawings will feature a presentation of the artist's works created during the course of the last five years. The common thread to the displayed art works is the concern with drawing as a process. The works re-question what a drawing is (or what it can be), focusing more on the process of drawing rather than the end product (the drawing) itself. Selected Drawings were created in different ways, either manually, or by using technology.

Works by Anja Jelovšek transcend their form and are manifested as documentations (records), objects, installations, even performances. They are often a record of the artist's time spent and expressed through the process of drawing, whether through technology-supported procedures, or by her own craftsmanship; they translate or transform a form of existence into a form of creation.

Many of the works were created through the artist's performative practice (in the widest sense of the word): they are often seen as "remains" of  such a practice, addressing, among other, the question of what and where the artwork really is – is it all there (in the remains) on the paper, or did it truly exist only in the moment when it was being created? This re-questioning of the transformative power of the medium is frequently structured around broader, universal issues related to notions of existence, being, and time.

Marking the occasion of the Slovene cultural holiday, you are hereby also kindly invited to join us on Thursday, 8 February 2018, between 10 and 12 a. m., for a breakfast with the artist.
