 | SHELTERS OF BABYLON / KIBLIX 2017 - OPENINGSHELTERS OF BABYLON / KIBLIX 2017 09.11.2017 19:00
international exhibition and KIBLIX Festival 2017, 16th edition
KIBLA PORTAL, MMC KIBLA / KiBela, artKIT
 Maribor, Slovenia

“Shelters of Babylon” is the central theme of this year's exhibition and KIBLIX festival 2017. We will be focusing our attention beyond the mere technological, commercial and economic horizon, to scrutinize artistic, cultural, psychological and philosophical aspects of modern migration, borders, communication, tolerance and other concerns related to the progress and development of modern-day society, which are becoming increasingly integrated in the core issue of internationalizing global movement on the level of all humankind.
Committed to art, technology and research, KIBLIX 2017 is a conglomerate of visions, expectations, and fears associated with how we perceive the modern era and the all-encompassing “migration and refugee movements”, with an emphasis on implementation, research, and production of connectivity, communication, empathy, and human values with the help and use of artistic or humanistic means.
Starting on 9 November 2017, ACE KIBLA will host, in collaboration with international and local partners, an exciting and comprehensive confrontation between art and reality through the prism of contemporary (and historic) “shelters of Babylon”.  A consideration about the essence of future world migration issues created by human migration movements will also be the starting point for a process of reflection about ourselves, about our weaknesses, but also about our strengths – in short, about all those things that “make us human”.
The festival program will feature symposia, exhibitions, performances, workshops, and artistic interventions by a broad range of artists, scientists, scholars, and field experts. For the second year in a row, ACE KIBLA presents the White Aphroid award for contemporary artistic and educational achievements. Winners shall receive the White Aphroid statuette and a financial prize, at the award ceremony on 7 December 2017.

The White Aphroid award was presented for the first time last year as part of KIBLA's MIG 21 & KIBLIX-MFRU 2016 festival platform, where the jury selected between more than 70 national and international artists and collectives.

The winner of the White Aphroid 2016 for artistic achievements was Špela Petrič with her work Phytoteratology, and Institute 404 – Youth Technology Center, for achievements in the field of education.
