Armenian Contemporary Poetry: Arpi Voskanyan
Armenian Contemporary Poetry: Arpi Voskanyan Tuesday, 21 October 2025, at 6 p.m. MMC KIBLA
On Tuesday, 21 October 2025, we invite you at 6 p.m. to the MMC KIBLA in Maribor to listen to Arpi Voskanyan’s poetry, read by the author in Armenian, and their translations into Slovenian and English.
Cultural ties between Slovenia and Armenia are still weak and infrequent. The reading of works by contemporary Armenian writer Arpi Voskanyan, organised within the framework of OASis project and residency program by the Today Art Initiative and KIBLA, aims to foster and develop this cultural exchange.
Arpi Voskanyan has been active in literature since the mid-1990s. She is the author of four books and the winner of numerous literary awards. Her works have earned not only recognition but also sharp criticism – especially her debut book, Tsik (2001), a collection of prose-poems and experimental pieces, in which she negates moral and aesthetic norms.
The political and social movements that began in 2007, in which she took an active part, have profoundly influenced her writing, shaping not only her themes but also introducing a new approach that was rejected by the majority of writers and literary critics at that time.
In 2012, together with prose writer Hambardzum Hambardzumyan, she founded the literary website Groghutsav (groghutsav.am) to promote literature that reflects, questions, and examines social, political, and cultural realities.
During the reading, Arpi Voskanyan will present selections from her works written from different years.
The OASis project (2024-2027) is co-financed by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union and Ministry of Public Administration.

Funded by the European Union.
