Seed bombing, Prosenjakovci, 22.–24. 6. 2012

Art intervention as part of the “New Media Cross-Border” project

Location: premises of the Institution for development and art – Art center, 47 Središče, 9207 Prosenjakovci

With the Seed-bombing intervention we tackled and checked on some of the rules of growing and processing hemp (legislation, practice), warned about the criminalization of the plant as such, and, above all, highlighted the number of its positive aspects as a superfood (nutritional value, medicinal properties) and as a supermaterial (range of products).

For the needs of the intervention we obtained ecological hemp seeds and designed them into seed-bombs. The seed-bombs were then planted on different locations across the region of Prekmurje and elsewhere in Slovenia. Each of the participants committed to document and watch over some of the locations. The progress and development will thus be recorded time-wise and location-wise. Shortly, the photo and video documentation will also be available on the ‘No border culture’ blog (http://blog.noborderculture.eu/).

Program:
Day 1: arrival, accommodation, project presentation, dinner, socializing
Day 2: preparation of materials, seed-bomb making, documentation of the process; brainstorming, further seed-bomb making, tutorial design; final elaboration of the project, location setting
Day 3: riding to various locations, documenting – recording and “bombing”

“Instructions” on how to make seed-bombs were designed, available at:

Eco graffiti “Prekmurje, the first eco region”
September 16-18 2012

Location: premises of the Institution for development and art Art center, 47 Središče, 9207 Prosenjakovci, Murska Sobota, Slovenia; various locations within Goričko Regional Park

Pomurje as a distinctly agricultural landscape has all the necessary natural resources to be able to provide food-sustainability. As little as 30% of home-grown food is therefore a very alarming information. Joined with the fact of an over 20% unemployment rate in the region, the answer is as clear as daylight: the shift from a destructive, intense, mono-cultural farming that led us to the current situation towards an extensive, poly-cultural, ecological and sustainable farming, which should provide food and work to the widest possible range of people. This intervention was a “soft” way of presenting the idea of Prekmurje as the first eco-region and an attempt to gradually disseminate it among the local inhabitants.

With the idea of establishing a new, sustainable and solidarity-oriented social paradigm, we designed a logo and some stencils for an eco-graffiti, which we used on different locations in the town of Murska Sobota (marketplace, park, high-traffic roads) and Goričko (Središče, Prosenjakovci, Grad). In the weeks to come we will record the growing of the moss, water it regularly and document the entire process. The eco-graffiti should come to life in a matter of weeks.

The process and development are going to be recorded through time on the above mentioned locations. Shortly, the photo and video documentation will also be available on the ‘No border culture’ blog: (http://blog.noborderculture.eu/).

Daily schedule:
Day 1: arrival (afternoon), accommodation, project presentation, dinner, socializing
Day 2: breakfast, brainstorming, material preparation (eco-graffiti compounds), logo design, process documentation, lunch, making stencils, tutorial design, dinner, final project elaboration, location setting
Day 3: breakfast, riding to various locations, documentation – recording and graffiti making, lunch, conclusion

An eco-graffiti tutorial was designed, available at:

Intervention participants:
Vita Žgur (SI), Zdravko Pravdič - Pec (SI), Kruno Jošt (CRO), Samuel Friškič (SI), Simon Poldauf (SI), Maja Kohek (SI).
