The two-year-old New Media Cross-Border project is coming to an end in the following month. On this occasion, you are invited to the Scheier Gallery in Čakovec (Croatia) on Thursday, 21 February 2013 at 7pm, for the exhibition opening »Iza Granica« (»Across Borders«), the book presentation of »In-dependent?«, and an overview of project results.
Exhibition »Iza granica« (»Across borders«)
Trying to converge to contemporary trends in the arts, the Scheier Gallery is host to »Across Borders« - an exhibition of contemporary works from the so-called socially committed art. The art that doesn't pay as much attention to a beautiful and esthetically appealing artistic creation, as it does to the process of creating a work, requestioning our attitude to the world in which we live in. It deals with topics like the relationship between people and nature, technologies, the system and social stands, while calling for engagement on behalf of both, the visitors and the artists.
The opening includes a multimedia performance »Volim te« (»I Love You«) by painter Kristina Horvat Blažinović, choreographer/dancer Leja Jurišič and Teja Reba (Ljubljana). Another highlight is the cooperation of interactive works by Milivoj Mimi Kuhar with new media artist Ricardo Palmieri (Brazil), as well as the works of artists and activists from Slovenian partner organizations: Maja Kohek, Simon Poldauf, Zdravko Pravdić-Pec, Ana Pečar and Vita Žgur. Apart from the interactive installations' presentation, video works and a documentation of the artistic performances, the audience will have a chance to participate in a workshop, making special »seed bombs« to help clean polluted soil.
The concept and curatorship for the exhibition are the work of Kruno Jošt, (MA of new media arts), the texts in the publication contributed by new media artist Martina Mezak (Zagreb), culturologist/curator/artist Nataša Kadin (Split), and writer/activist Nino Flisar (Maribor).
The exhibition will be showing until 26 February 2013, on weekdays from 10am to 12am and from 5pm to 7pm, on Saturdays between 10am and 12am.
The exhibition, book and documentary are project activities of Transdisciplinarity and new media cultures in the development of cross-border collaborations (New Media Cross-Border), executed by Autonomous center – ACT (Čakovec), Association for Culture and Education KIBLA (Maribor), ONEJ - Association of Prekmurje Initiative (Murska Sobota) and V.U.K. Youth Association (Varaždin), as part of Operative program IPA SI-HR 2007–2013.
