Book presentation: (IN)DEPENDENT?, Varaždin, 14 February 2013

The book (IN)DEPENDENT? is a miscellany of texts on the commitment of the individual inside the community, self-organization and cooperation; on transdisciplinarity reexamining the sociological phenomena inside independent and new media cultures. The authors of the texts come from the field of arts&culture and the civil society, and have been participating in the development of the community. This broad selection of topics captures the time period from the 1980s onwards, and contains a variety of texts, ranging from personal to scientific. It offers an insight into the state of the individual/activist to-day, on the verge of general failure of capitalism, and identifies ideas and opportunities for a different and better functioning of the system.
Co-published by ACE KIBLA and ACT Čakovec, the book was released as part of the TOX collection, with texts in Slovenian, Croatian, and English.

The presentation will host a discussion with editors and authors, while the gallery showcases an exhibition about the independent new media scene in north-western Croatia and Slovenia, organized by the V.U.K. youth association from Varaždin.

The book is part of a project led by ACT – Autonomous center from Čakovec, together with partners Association for Culture and Education KIBLA (Maribor), ONEJ – Association for Prekmurje Initiative (Murska Sobota) and V.U.K. (Varaždin); the project entitled ‘Transdisciplinarity and new media cultures in the development of cross-border collaborations’ – NEW MEDIA CROSS BORDER, which is executed as part of the Operative program IPA SI-HR 2007–2013.
