EACEA

Materiality is art project that brings together four cultural and academic organizations – WYSPA Institute of Art / Gdansk, Poland; VESSEL / Bari, Italy; Instituto Polytechnico de Tomar, Portugal; ACE KIBLA / Maribor, Slovenia, trying to critically investigate the subject of materiality in contemporary visual culture. Inspired by industrial settings in Gdansk, Guimaraes, Maribor and Bari the project is intended to result in shared productions, mobility of artists and curators, theoretical elaboration and distribution of the research outcome.

Operating through the means of artistic productions, exhibitions, meetings and gatherings, printed and online publications the project is meant to open the question of materiality in intersection of art and knowledge and investigate how these two modes of research can contributes their ways of getting to know. The project asks a timely question at the moment when Europe is fighting deficits and chasing unstable currencies, filling debts and agreeing or not over bailouts. It is extremely important to come back to the concrete, physical graspability of things. Thus, the number of European practitioners turned theorists and then turned practitioners again get involved into “Materiality” with access points provided by their research interests.
