EU-PA: mapping in Jesolo, Italy, in the beginning of July 2012

A total of 16 students (8 from CSM and 8 from Jesolo) participated in the project of mapping Jesolo in four teams (4 students per team) and 4 tutors, one from each partner and one team assigned to each of the 3 selected sites. The fourth team’s role was to create a trail of more ambient interventions linking the 3 sites – creating “trail touch points” for the public.
Cities: London, Jesolo, Praga in Maribor.
KIBLA team: Mirjana Rukavina and Dejan Pestotnik

The Jesolo-based EU-PA activities will be taking place in collaboration with the Municipality of Jesolo. The Municipality of Jesolo lies north of Venice in Italy, between Eraclea and Cavallino-Treporti. Jesolo gives its name to a 22km square lagoon on the Adriatic Sea, between the rivers Sile and Piave. The city’s economy is predominantly based on seasonal tourism, due to its 15km long beach, the Lido di Jesolo.

The resort currently attracts around 7 million visitors each year during the summer season. However, Jesolo is currently undergoing a process of urban reorganisation and reassessment. World-renowned city planners and international architects such as Meyer, Nouvel and Hadid, are working side by side with local architects under the supervision of municipal administrators.

The global revitalisation of Jesolo is central to the Municipality’s aims for its urban rejuvination. This welcoming seaside town prepares to become a modern European City Beach – a destination where it is possible to live all year round with the utilities and comforts of the city, but with the climate, relaxation and entertainment that only a coastal resort can offer. The Municipality of Jesolo is dedicated to raising awareness of EU policies in connection with the Cultural Office, whose shared mission is the internationalisation of the city.
