Donate, exchange or take a chair! Revitalization of Koroška Street in Maribor, Thursday, 28 June 2012

Opening event of a public space intervention and video projection by students from the video department of Central Saint Martins College London

Thursday, 28 June 2012, 8pm
Koroška Street, Koper bar courtyard, Maribor, Slovenia

The connective-communicative element marking the event are different chairs placed in the public space – the spatial installation takes place between Glavni trg square and Koroška Street and ends in the courtyard of the former Koper bar.
The intervention was formed with a desire for an inter-connection, communication and activation of the residents of Koroška Street, as well as other local inhabitants in the wider area. The project was organized in cooperation with students from the Central Saint Martins College from London, and is a realization of their work in Maribor.
The chairs were collected by means of a public appeal and were donated by citizens, associations, schools and other institutions. Every chair is furnished with a label stating the name of its owner and the project partners. After the event you are free to choose a chair that you like and keep it – you can even book one in advance, from 5pm onwards, by attaching a red sticker which you receive at KIT in Glavni trg square. The remaining chairs will be donated by KIBLA to Karitas and the Red Cross organization.

The intervention is part of project EuroPA, European Public Art, supported by the EU Culture program.

Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, study course “Narrative Environments” deals with various environment and urban space analyses on an interdisciplinary level. The students are integrated in the environment on the level of art interventions in the public space, social engagement, research of social innovations and the so-called experience design in connection to the public space.
