You are cordially invited on Friday, 30 October 2026, at 12 a.m. at MMC KIBLA and on the same day at 4 p.m. in the multipurpose space KIBLA PORTAL to experience DanceScapes, an immersive VR dance event that is the outcome and deliverable of the Danube Dance Alliance project.

DanceScapes is a 30-minute immersive dance experience in which viewers, wearing virtual reality headsets, embark on a journey through forgotten spaces in Velenje, Trbovlje, Sarajevo, Belgrade, and the Istrian village of Svetvinčenat. Movement and music bring back to life places that were once important to their communities but now stand abandoned. Cutting-edge technology allows viewers to fully experience the interplay of contemporary dance and architecture across five locations in the Balkans.

As an introduction to the experience, the creative team will talk about how they developed this virtual version of the dance performance, discussing its technical and artistic aspects, the challenges they encountered, and their plans for the future.

Due to technical limitations, only 16 spots are available, so be sure to register soon by emailing peter.lubej@kibla.org.

The international Danube Dance Alliance project brings contemporary dance into dialogue with architecture, immersive technology, and, above all, community. It invites audiences to explore abandoned spaces with dancers, including a disused chimney, a deserted swimming pool, a mine tunnel, and parks in Trbovlje, Velenje, Svetvinčenat, Belgrade, and Sarajevo. The stories held within these once-vital places intertwine with movement and immersive technology in an innovative VR dance experience, directed by Enya Belak, which actively engages viewers in shaping their own journey.

The director on the film:
The film is an escape into dance – an ode to silent spaces and forgotten presences, where the body shifts silent voids. DanceScapes is a 360° virtual reality experience that brings together five choreographers and nineteen performers in a single journey through music, revisiting sites across the Adriatic-Balkan region. In a full-circle view, as one continuous momentum, we embrace stories of the past while, through dance, reimagining the future.

My vision was to trace connections between distinct movement languages, soundscapes, the interplay of light and darkness, architectural resonances, and unique landscapes. The dance breathes life back into these spaces, like an echo traveling through them. Some movements carry threads of the past, others move through the rush of everyday life. We draw attention to the individual while diving deeper into a space where two worlds collide – where the burden of the past also brings the community closer together. It sparks collectivity, alliance, and an unceasing movement that persists in hope, where light is born out of the cracks where dreams are built.
