Academy Green Energy Skills for Youth Maribor, 26 June – 1 July 2018
As part of the project Green Energy Skills for Youth, in these days Maribor is hosting an event called Academy. Between June 26th and July 1st 2018, twelve students from Turkey are visiting our town to acquire, in theory and practice, new skills and knowledge about climate changes, ecosystems, the production and conservation of energy, waste management and recycling, pollution, carbon footprint, etc.
Their "green education" includes visits to the hydroelectric power plant Fala and FERI (the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science), a tour of solar and wind power systems, a visit to Mariborski vodovod, the company that oversees the city's water distribution system, as well as afternoon lectures and workshops aimed at strengthening green skills, raising awareness, and acquiring competences. Through creative educational methods, the students are also introduced to the technology that is related in some way or another to the production/measurement of energy. In addition, they can learn by using educational interactive games and 3D simulations, which were developed by the project partners.
To make learning more attractive and effective, our program includes the creation of visual images related to environmental issues, while visiting students also contribute their blog posts on a regular basis, thus sharing their impressions with the general public.
