You are hereby cordially invited to attend the opening of the exhibition Anomalies by academy-trained painter Oto Rimele on Friday, 25 May, at 7 p. m., in KiBela Gallery in Maribor. The exhibition is co-produced in collaboration with renowned Maribor-based gallerist Peter Žula.

Oto Rimele's Anomalies are visual exceptionalities, two-dimensional canvases with a three-dimensional effect, in which we perceive the length, surface and volume at the same time. Through the movement of the observer across the gallery space, Rimele adds the "fourth dimension" – time, which is related to the duration of the observer's presence. It is only through this kind of co-existence that anomalies are created: the observer defines the subject matter of the works subjectively, and retrospectively. Each of the works thus becomes an anomalous image, a subjective emergence of a visual perspective that is reflected in the gallery space. The image becomes a proper object: it is there, because we see it; it is not there, because we are not there. Oto Rimele is a painter, visual artist, author of visual spatial installations and musician.
Light is central to his images, and his art could be described as a form of "spiritual minimalism" in the context of metamodernist painting.
In 2004 he received the Prešeren Fund Award for his exhibition Illuminations held in the former monastery church in Kostanjevica na Krki.
Oto Rimele: Duhovnost materialne odsotnosti / Spirituality of material absence is a bilingual monograph on Rimele's work, published in 2012 and written in collaboration with an important connoisseur of world art Professor Dr. Jure Mikuž.
Oto Rimele is Full Professor at the University of Maribor, where he teaches painting and drawing.
