And Now for Something Completely Different 8
Overview exhibition of 15 years of work by Nika Oblak & Primož Novak in two parts
Nika Oblak and Primož Novak have been working together in exploring modern society under the influence of media and capitalism for 15 years now. Their work includes photography, videos, installations, performances and space interventions in which the artists usually play a leading role. The duo is mostly inspired by their own personal experiences.
The retrospective reflects 15 years of their work and for the exhibition the authors have chosen two different locations, which are UGM Studio and MMC Kibla. They are presenting themselves with more than fifteen projects, many of which are exhibited in Slovenia for the first time, since they mostly exhibit internationally. UGM Studio will exhibit work, based on text and in which the artists played with the concept of identity. Simultaneously, MMC Kibla will exhibit mostly new media projects.
Nika Oblak & Primož Novak have been working as a tandem in the field of contemporary art since 2003. In their artistic practice they explore modern society under the influence of media and capitalism and present their visual and linguistic structure in detail. Their work was exhibited in prestigious venues of contemporary art around the world, such as: Sharjah Biennial (UAE), Japan Media Arts Festival (JP), Istanbul Biennial (TR), Biennale Cuvee, Linz (AT), Transmediale Berlin (DE), FILE Sao Paulo (BR). They recieved numerous scholarships and awards, among others the CYNETART Award by Trans-Media-Akademie Hellerau in Dresden (DE).
