MMC KIBLA, Ulica kneza Koclja 9, Maribor

A discussion with Slovenian director and screenwriter Damjan Kozole will be hosted as part of the Risk Change project, which explores in innovative ways the processes of migration in the cultural and artistic context; on Thursday, 30 March 2017 at 7 p. m. at the MMC KIBLA.

The discussion with the director will be accompanied by a screening of documentaries Meje (Borders; Vesna Award for Best Documentary (Slovenian Film Festival 2016), winner of Dokudoc Festival (Maribor), Human Rights Award – Special Mention (22nd Sarajevo Film Festival)), which was shot in October 2015 in Brežice, at the Schengen border between Slovenia and Croatia. We will also be showing and discussing Fototot and Silent Party, two films which have been used by legendary performers Ulay and Marina Abramović, both migrants, to accompany their creative efforts. Migrations and the issues associated with them are a topic that has ruffled quite a few feathers in the Slovenian public space. Can we even talk about humanism and migrations in the same breath?

Kindly welcome.

Damjan Kozole was born in 1964 in Brežice. His films have received numerous awards and nominations. Rezervni deli (Spare Parts) was nominated for the Golden Bear in 2003 at the Berlin International Film Festival; in 2008 Sight & Sound ranked this film among the ten most important films of the New Europe.
Slovenka (Slovenian Girl) was shown at more than one hundred international film festivals, and is the best-selling Slovenian movie of all times. For Nočno življenje (Nightlife, 2016) he received the Crystal Globe Award for Best Director at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2016.
He is the author (director and screenwriter) of feature films Usodni telefon (The Fatal Telephone, 1987), Remington (1988), Stereotip (Stereotype, 1997), Porno film (2000), Rezervni deli (Spare Parts, 2003), Delo osvobaja (Labor Equals Freedom, 2005), Za vedno (Forever, 2008), and Slovenka (Slovenian Girl, 2009), as well as feature length documentaries  Rojevanje Leara (The Birth of Lear,1993) and Dolge počitnice (The Long Vacation, 2012).
