TWO-DAY GRAPHIC DESIGN WORKSHOP BY MIHA KOSMAČ / LECTURE BY ROK PREDIN
Date: 25-27 October 2016 Location: Multimedia Center KIBLA, Maribor, Slovenia
ACE KIBLA is hereby inviting creatives from the field of design to a two-day free-of-charge workshop, which will be led by internationally acclaimed designer Miha Kosmač under the working title RE-CREA-TION, and is scheduled for 26-27 October 2016, at the MMC KIBLA in Maribor. Mentor Miha Kosmač will be presenting theoretical and practical aspects of high-quality knowledge and expertise in the field of visual communications and creative graphic design. The workshop is suitable for both beginners and experienced designers who wish to improve their skills.
The workshop will focus on individual, inventive design ideas, drawings, and typography design. The skills acquired through the workshop will be applicable in a broad range of practices/media: printed media, the internet, photography, and illustrations.
Miha Kosmač is a designer and illustrator based in London. His favourite mediums of expression are posters and classical drawing. His most noted socially responsible work was done for 15th Magdalena Festival, Tribuna newspaper and various Poster Festivals. He is most interested in working with professionals from different fields such as animation, film, music, theatre... It is in this kind of collaboration that one can contribute his best self to the project.
The event will be enhanced by a workshop led by Ilse Rombout from 7scenes, Amsterdam, a dynamic Dutch-based team of creative programmers and designers. 7scenes come with years of experience in the field of mobile technologies and intermedia interventions to 3D spaces. Ilse Rombouts, creative director at 7scenes, supervises the international implementation of their projects, and acts as head of their PR department. The team specializes in location-based mobile apps used to construct 3D models, virtual galleries, and digital museum maps, such as the one for Rijksmuseum.
The two-day workshop also features (25 October 2016) a lecture by Rok Predin, a renowned 3D animator originally from Maribor, who will share his international experience with the participants, and answer any questions from the audience. Rok Predin, animation artist and musician with a MFA in painting, has been living in London for a few years now, and works as an animation director at Trunk Animations. Among his most famous works are the videos he made for the Rolling Stones, and the live visuals for the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee at Buckingham Palace.

The group is limited to 20 participants. At the end of the workshop, our board of experts, comprising Ilse Rombout (7scenes, Amsterdam), Barnabas Bencsik (Agency for Contemporary Art Exchange, Budimpešta), Karen Birch (The Mighty Creatives, Leicester), and Peter Lubej (KIBLA, Maribor) will review the products and select a designer who will be given the opportunity to contribute to the design of all visual communication acts in the framework of the Risk Change project, which deals with the topic of contemporary migrations. The selected designer will collaborate by connecting, comparing, disseminating, and promoting creative products with a view to re-thinking the phenomenon of migration as a present-day state of mind.

In the frame of the Risk Change Project (2016-2020) there will be over 400 communication acts / products delivered altogether (more than one hundred with sustainable results), both on the Web and physically on ten locations across Europe (Amsterdam, Budapest, Riga, Zejtun, Leicester, Marseille, Athens, Rijeka, Novi Sad, and Maribor). The products will address actual migration issues, and will be realized with the support of trained local community groups, i. e. students, designers, visual communication creatives, communication experts, artists, etc. All project activities are based on principles of free access, open code, and/or creative commons.
Other successfully realized works from the workshop, as well as works obtained via open calls, will also be actively promoted and networked.
The MIG 21 art show is the first in a series of large-scale international events of the four-year project Risk Change (2016–2020), co-financed by the Creative Europe program of the European Union. The project is also supported by the Municipality of Maribor and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.
