19 September –1 October 2016 KiBela, space for art MMC KIBLA, Maribor, Slovenia
Opening on Friday, 16 September 2016 (showing until 1 October 2016) Jasna Klara Kozar: Avatar
In Sanskrit, avatar means a reincarnating soul, something which is becoming a challenge once again in the sphere of contemporary painting – because any kind of restriction in the tactile and creative freedom is unbearable to a painter. Jasna Kozar’s Avatar is, above all, an attempt at a meditative intellectual shift, but also playing with the ideal of re-birth. The question remains, does the re-birth occur as “returning of the same”, or does it merely trip over something we call karma? What is Kozar’s avatar like in the traditional painting medium? As the artist herself states, it is about “the recycling of an Indian experience, which lasted for a temporal period of eight years”.
Jasna Klara Kozar graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, under Gabrijel Stupica and Jože Brumen, and later specialized in painting under Gabrijel Stupica and Jože Ciuha (1977). She obtained her MA degree from the International Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, India (1979) and attended additional studies at the Cite des Arts in Paris. She has received several national and international awards and recognitions. Since January 2011 she is the owner of the 3X Gallery in Maribor.
