The young Basque writer and poet Ekaitz Goienetxea presents himself in Maribor

Association for Contemporary Arts X-OP from Maribor is one of the Slovenian cultural organizations that have successfully joined the EU  Program Creative Europe, in which it cooperates with the two projects. One of them, Other Words / Druge besede connects 'small' and minority languages and promote them through literary productions and residences. Leader, institution Donostia Culture from San Sebastian / Donostia, one of this year's European Capitals of Culture highlights Basque language, while alongside Slovenian present are Macedonian Irish and Frisian languages.   The project started in 2015 and will run until 2019. The first activity of the Association X-OP is hosting Ekaitz Goienetxea on a two-month residency in Maribor, where in this time, of course, he'll be writing and participating in festivals, he'll be involved in events, knowing about our culture and environment, learning the Slovenian language, visiting other places and for the first time presenting on Monday, 21 March 2016, for the World Day of Poetry, in the evening of poetry reading at the Multimedia Centre KIBLA.
Ekaitz Goienetxea
is young Basque author, who comes from Bermeo (Bay of Biscay). He writes short stories, travel writings and poetry. In 2014 he received the »Gabriel Aresti« Award  In Maribor he'll live, work and learn about the local environment, community and culture in the period between March and May of this year.   For the World Day of Poetry Ekaitz Goienetxea will present selected poems in the Basque language, to which we will be listening along with their English translation. This will be his first appropriate presentation in Slovenia.
Project  Other Words / Druge besede is a partner program of organizations from European regions in the field of culture, the aim of which is to establish a network of creative environments for writers, poets, musicians, scriptwriters and  aphorists and all other artists, who use language as their means of expression and create in 'small' languages.   Beside Association X-OP the X-OP Society and leading organization Donostia Culture from the Basque Country (Spain), partners Youth Forum from Bitola (Macedonia), Foras na Gaeilge from Ireland and Tresoar from Friesland (Netherlands) are involved.

You are cordially invited to join us on Monday, 21 March 2016, at 7 pm in Kibla. Admission is free.
