Re_humanization is a concert cycle presenting new musical, multimedia, music-scene works by young Slovenian artists. The cycle is based on a specific production practice, where an ensemble of established musicians performs works by unestablished younger artists, with the final artistic form (co)shaped through the process of collaborative work.

The aim of the cycle is to promote advanced, musically and sonically based »media«, which as such have specific artistic, theoretical and wider social potentials.

The composer in residence for the upcoming edition will be violist Domen Kužnar, and the ensemble in residence will consist of: Nejc Grm (accordion), Gašper Livk (double bass), Tilen Lebar (saxophone), and Weronika Partyk (saxophone). The mentor will be Dré A. Hočevar.

Domen Kužnar: Dreams

Dreams are a powerful tool for understanding ourselves, as well as for understanding reality and the world. At the same time, dreams can be understood as our own abstract interpretation of certain impulses or information that the brain receives consciously or unconsciously. In this way, creative and imaginative information-processing processes occur in dreams, and dreams thus convey certain messages and act as a bridge between the conscious and the unconscious. All information is thus transformed and restructured before it travels from the unconscious to the conscious during dreaming, and in dreams this information forms a course of events, a course of thoughts, a course of sounds.

Questions: What processes take place during a dream for various transformations to occur? How are such processes transformed/translated for compositional purposes? Can we control and manage the thought process during a dream and thus progress and develop?

Domen Kužnar (born 1998) is a violist and composer. He is currently studying viola at the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana, with Prof. Maja Rome. As part of the Erasmus+ exchange, he studied at the Icelandic University of the Arts with Professors Þórunn Ósk Marínósdóttir and Svavi Bernharðsdóttir. During his studies, he focuses on technical improvement and expressiveness on the instrument, and is particularly interested in the repertoire of contemporary and new music. He is a member of Transposition String Quartet+ and the ensemble .abeceda [ensemble for new music]. Some of his mentors were Nabuko Imao, Emile Cantor, Peter Barszony, Garth Knox, Atar Arad, Vincent Royer, Helfried Fister and Dré A. Hočevar.
